previous HosbandTarrant, so called because the Manor of it belonged, before the Suppression of the Abbies, to the Monastery of Tarrant in Dorsetshire; but being in King Edward VI.'s Possession, Reg 1. he, by the Advice of the Lord Protector and his Council, granted it with several other Lands and Rents in the Manor of Bramhill, and the FeeFarm Rent of Basingstoke, together with Wardlame Park in this County, and in other Counties, unto Sir William Pawlet Knt. Lord St. John, great Master of his Houshold, and to his Heirs and Assigns for ever, for the Maintenance of the Fortress of Leatly in the said County, and finding one Captain, one Porter, one Gunner, and six Soldiers. On the Borders of this County near Berkshire stands next |
