SWAY, modern parish carved out of Boldre
Possibly Old English 'swaeth'='track', surviving in a Normanized form, which
would not be surprising close to a centre of the royal court's activity like the
New Forest. Ekwall suggests a river name (for 'Avon Water'; this name is
entirely modern) deriving from Old English 'swege'='sounding', but this seems a
bit weak.
