refce:	Coates 1989 PRIOR'S BARTON, in Winchester Old English 'beretun' literally 'barley farm'; later 'grange farm'. The word 'barton' is recorded as a Hampshire dialect word by Cope (1883: 5). This grange farm belonged to the prior of St Swithin's.
